Frequently asked questions
How do I look up a single letter in Morse code?
Find the letter in the grid on this page — every card shows the letter, its dot-dash code and a button to hear it. Each card also opens the full translator with that letter already loaded, so you can build whole words from there.
What is the letter A in Morse code?
A is .- (dot dash) — one of the shortest codes in the alphabet. Its neighbour patterns are easy to confuse, so compare carefully: N is -. (the mirror image), M is -- and W is .--. The alphabet page teaches a memory hook for every letter.
Are Morse code letters the same in every country?
For the 26 Latin letters and the digits, yes — International Morse Code (ITU-R M.1677) is a worldwide standard, so A is .- everywhere. Some languages add a few extra codes for accented letters such as Ä (.--.-), which our chart page lists separately.
